Regina is building again. CMHC counted 1,687 housing starts in 2025, up 38% from 1,223 (CMHC). The City issued 2,820 building permits worth $592 million and approved 1,670 new homes, and it launched the new Coopertown neighbourhood in the northwest (City of Regina 2025 Annual Report).
New subdivisions mean framing lumber, windows, furnaces and copper sitting out overnight in Harbour Landing, The Greens on Gardiner and Coopertown. The City is also putting $147 million into road and water work in 2026, including 11th Avenue, the Albert Street overpass and a southwest sewer (City of Regina). Those long work zones leave equipment parked along open roads.
Regina Police reported that crimes against property fell 15.8% in 2025, but bin fires rose about 16% (SaskToday, citing Regina Police Service year-end figures). A dumpster fire behind a strip mall or apartment building can spread to the wall in minutes. Retail theft can also turn dangerous: in 2025 one repeat shoplifter faced 28 charges across 10 incidents, some involving a knife and bear spray (Regina Police Service).
West of the city, the Global Transportation Hub is an inland port with tenants such as CPKC, Loblaw, Amazon and Cargill. Yards and warehouses there, in the Ross Industrial Park and around the Warehouse District, hold trailers, fuel and copper behind long fence lines that nobody can watch on foot all night.
In January 2026, wind chills in Regina dropped below minus 40 (Regina Leader-Post). On nights like that, a guard spends a lot of time in the truck with the heater on. A camera doesn't, and ours keep working all the way to -40°C.
Secure Defence is the company behind the fix. We've done live video monitoring since 2015, with 500+ customers and 1,000+ sites live monitored across Western Canada. In 2025 and 2026, The Globe and Mail and BIV lists both placed us first among security firms, making us the Fastest Growing Security Company in Canada.
Your cameras stream to our command centre, where AI flags people and vehicles and a trained, licensed operator looks at every alert in real time. The operator acts on what they see:
A voice over the speaker tells the person this is private property and to leave now.
Stay, and a siren and flashing strobes kick in.
When the crime is real, our supervisor rings the Regina Police Service (or RCMP beyond city limits) and describes what's happening live.
You get zero false alarms and a verified response in about one minute. Photos and clips reach you as it happens. Our clients see 98% or more less crime.
Regina's cameras are watched in Richmond, BC, at the command centre we built for ourselves. It runs on generators and more than one internet connection, so it stays up through storms and outages. Distance doesn't slow us down: the operator sees your Regina site live and calls Regina police directly. Most clients never notice where the screens are, only that someone answers right away.
Regina installs are mostly pole cameras plugged into site power. We have them live in 5 to 7 days, faster if your start date is close. Every powered site gets 24-hour backup power, so a power cut on a cold night doesn't leave you blind. Already have cameras? We can monitor any ONVIF camera.
A small share of sites, about 4%, have no power at all, like a bare lot in a new subdivision or a remote compound. For those, we bring a solar camera tower. It deploys within 24 hours and its battery runs for two weeks, even in a Saskatchewan winter. Off-grid details are on solar camera towers.
We have 11 years in the business, and we're award-winning and insurance-approved. Moving from guards to live monitoring can save up to 70%. If you aren't happy after the first 30 days, our 30-Day Performance Guarantee has you covered.
"Over the year we have had countless jobsite robbery attempts, and Secure Defence's equipment and trained staff handled everything promptly and professionally resulting in no property theft or damage. There are not enough companies out there like Secure Defence anymore. Highly recommended." Branden McLean, Superintendent

Property crime fell in 2025, but builders and plaza owners still deal with break-ins, copper theft and bin fires. Monitoring stops those before they cost you, and our clients see crime drop by 98% or more.
The default is pole cameras on site power; if power drops, a 24-hour backup system takes over. Remote sites with no power use solar towers, and their two-week battery holds through winter.
Yes. Operators watch the back of the building as well as the front, and they warn off anyone near the bins or doors after hours.
Yes. We cover parkade gates, lobbies, storage rooms and garbage areas, and we send clips of each incident to the manager or board.
Our supervisors call. Inside the city that's the Regina Police Service, and in the surrounding communities it's the local RCMP detachment. They only call after an operator confirms a crime on live video.
Expect powered installs within 5 to 7 days. A solar tower for a site with no power can be up within 24 hours.
