This page covers the hardware and software behind our water leak detection: wireless leak sensors, leak cables, humidity and temperature sensors, motorized shut-off valves and the software that sends every alert to a live operator.
Secure Defence is a live video monitoring company. Since 2015, our trained, licensed operators have watched client cameras live, 24/7, from our own command centre in Richmond, BC. We serve Metro Vancouver and all of Western Canada. Leak sensors connect to the same system as our 24/7 live video monitoring, so every alert is checked by a person.
See how businesses use it: flood and water leak detection service.
Our leak sensors detect as little as 0.5 mm of water. That's a thin film on the floor, well before a puddle spreads.
When a sensor trips, it sends a message over the wireless network to a gateway, and the gateway passes the alert to our Richmond command centre. Each sensor has a name and location, such as "P2 mechanical room, hot water tank 1", so the operator knows exactly where to look. Humidity and temperature sensors alert on limits we set for each room.
A motorized shut-off valve fits on the water line feeding a building, a floor or a single piece of equipment. When a linked sensor detects a leak, the valve closes automatically and cuts the water supply. Valves can also be closed or opened on command.
The sensors use LoRaWAN, a long-range, low-power wireless network built for sensors. LoRaWAN signals travel through concrete floors and walls better than Wi-Fi, which suits parkades, mechanical rooms and risers. The sensors don't need building Wi-Fi or new wiring.
Each sensor is linked to the nearest camera. When a sensor trips, the operator gets the alert and the live view from that camera together. They can see whether water is spraying from a pipe, pooling under a tank or just a spill from a mop bucket. Where there's no camera in the room, the operator works from the sensor data and your instructions.
System health checks watch sensors and gateways, so a device that stops reporting gets flagged.
These sensors are used in strata and property management, warehousing, retail, commercial and industrial and construction properties.
We'll walk your building and map out where sensors, cables and valves should go.
