Construction Time-Lapse Cameras on Your Live-Monitored Site

Our construction time-lapse cameras are an add-on to our 24/7 live video monitoring. The same site that's protected at night gets recorded by day, from the first excavator to the ribbon cutting. You get progress photos, a project link you can share, and finished time-lapse videos, all from one company.

Secure Defence has protected job sites since 2015. Live video monitoring is our core service. Our trained, licensed operators watch your cameras live from our own command centre in Richmond, BC, and step in the moment something is wrong. We're the Fastest Growing Security Company in Canada, the highest-ranked security company on both The Globe and Mail and BIV growth lists for 2025 and 2026. We have 500+ customers and 1,000+ sites live monitored across Western Canada. Metro Vancouver is our home market, and construction site security is one of our two biggest areas of work.

One system for security and progress

Most builders hire one company to guard the site and another to film it. That means two sets of cameras, two sets of poles and two calls when something breaks. We do both.

  • Same mounts and power. Time-lapse cameras can share poles, power and internet with your security cameras.
  • One team. The same people install, check and service everything.
  • Always checked. Our system health checks watch the cameras, so a gap in your footage gets fixed fast.
  • Secure footage. The time-lapse camera sits on a site that's watched live, so it's far less likely to be stolen or damaged.

What you get

  • Scheduled photos at the interval you choose, capturing your site on your schedule.
  • A project link your team, owners and lenders can open any time to see the latest photos and look back at past days.
  • Progress clips at the milestones you pick, such as excavation, structure complete or lock-up.
  • A final time-lapse video of the whole build when you're done.

How builders use time-lapse

Owner and lender updates

Owners and lenders want to see progress, not read about it. A link to current photos and a short monthly clip answer most questions before they're asked.

Marketing and sales

A finished time-lapse shows what your team can build. Use it on your website, in pitches and at presales events.

Delay and dispute records

When there's a disagreement about when work started, how long it took or what was done, dated photos help settle it. Time-lapse footage gives you a clear, day-by-day record of the job.

Insurance and site records

If there's damage, a fire or a theft, the photos show what the site looked like before and after. Along with incident reports from your live monitoring, that gives your insurer a full picture.

Camera placement

Where the camera goes decides what your video looks like. We plan the view during your free site assessment.

  • On the crane. A camera high on the tower crane looks straight down at the build. A crane camera can also watch for crane climbing.
  • On a neighbouring building. A roof across the street gives the classic side view of the building going up.
  • On a pole. A pole on site works well for low-rise, townhouse and site work.

Cameras are built for Canadian weather, and our equipment is rated to -40°C, so they keep shooting through the winter.

From groundbreaking to handover

  1. 1. Free site assessment. We look at your site and plan the views. You get a quote in 24 to 48 hours.
  2. 2. Install. We mount the cameras and connect them to our system.
  3. 3. Capture. Photos are taken on your schedule and saved to the cloud.
  4. 4. Share. Your team gets the project link, and clips are made at your milestones.
  5. 5. Finish. At handover, you get the final video of the whole build.

The same steps work for a single tower or a multi-phase project across Western Canada. If you're building in the Lower Mainland, see our Vancouver construction time-lapse and Vancouver construction security pages.

What to ask any time-lapse provider

Before you sign up with anyone, including us, ask a few simple questions:

  • Who fixes the camera when it stops? A camera that goes quiet for two weeks leaves a hole in your video that you can't fill later.
  • Who protects it? Time-lapse cameras sit on job sites that get broken into. Ask whether anyone is watching the site at night.
  • How do we get the photos? You should be able to see current photos any time, without waiting for an email.
  • What happens at the end? Make sure you know what you get when the job is done, and in what form.
  • Can it grow with the job? Big projects add phases, towers and views. Ask how easy it is to add a camera.

We built our service around these questions, because we hear them from the builders we already protect.

Not just for construction

Developers and property managers also use time-lapse for large renovations, retail fit-outs and new warehouse builds. See strata and property management, retail, commercial and industrial and warehousing.
