Calgary is one of the biggest freight hubs in Western Canada. Trailers stack up in the Foothills and Great Plains industrial areas, along the northeast corridor and in Balzac, and many of those yards are full of loaded trailers on a Saturday night with nobody on site. Secure Defence provides truck yard security in Calgary, protecting trailer yards, warehouses and distribution centres across the region with live video monitoring. Trained, licensed operators watch your cameras 24/7 and stop thieves at the fence, not after the trailer is gone.

live video monitoring for industrial and logistics sites. We protect 500+ customers and 1,000+ sites across Western Canada.
smart cameras that pick out people and vehicles, watched by trained, licensed human operators in our own command centre in Richmond, BC, around the clock. In the Calgary region, a local salesperson and a local technician handle assessments, installs and service calls.
We serve all of Western Canada, including BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba, and Vancouver is our main market.
Équité Association, which tracks theft for insurers, counted about 240 thefts involving tractors, trailers and cargo in Alberta in 2025. Across Canada, only 44% of stolen trailers were recovered, down from 64% the year before, and just 9% of stolen cargo came back. Thieves favoured groceries, auto parts and building materials, and some got into yards with falsified paperwork (Truck News, Feb 23, 2026).
Trailers of every size are at risk. In August 2025, Calgary police charged two people after nine utility trailers were stolen across Calgary and Cochrane, given new identification numbers and sold online, for a total loss of about $77,500 (Calgary Police Service). Vehicle theft overall fell 7.6% in Calgary in 2025 to 4,088 (CPS 2025 Annual Report), but that's still more than 11 vehicles a day.
Operators watch the yard live during your closed hours. When cameras flag a person or vehicle, the operator checks it within seconds. A driver dropping a trailer on schedule is logged. A stranger hooking up to a trailer hears a live voice warning, then the siren and strobes. Once a crime is confirmed, we call for Verified Police Response with the truck, plate and direction of travel. You get a 1-minute verified response and zero false alarms, and clients see 98%+ overall crime reduction. More on our live video monitoring page.
Fence lines, rail spurs and back corners of the lot are covered so climbers and cut fences are caught early.
Gate access control, including biometric readers, keeps the gate shut to anyone without permission. A gate that opens only for approved drivers and staff is the best answer to fake paperwork.
Licence plate recognition logs every truck and car at the gate. If a plate doesn't match a booking, operators know to look closer.
GPS and cargo tracking can be added to trailers and high-value loads, so you can follow them if they do leave.
For a gravel trailer drop lot or new yard with no power, a solar camera tower goes up within 24 hours. Its 2-week battery holds in winter. See off-grid solutions.

Chinooks, hail and -30 nights are routine here. Our equipment is rated to -40 C. Every powered site gets a 24-hour backup power system, so cameras keep recording through outages.
Fuel siphoning is a common yard theft, and fuel tanks are also a fire risk. Our early fire detection adds fire and smoke detection to your cameras, and operators can spot someone at the tanks after hours.
Each incident comes with a report with operator notes and HD video. We keep 30 to 90 days of footage, and operators can search all your cameras in under 5 seconds. That's useful when a customer asks whether a load left your yard or a driver disputes damage.
Getting started is quick. Assessments and quotes come back in 24 to 48 hours. Existing cameras usually connect the same day for our live video monitoring service, and new pole cameras are live in 5 to 7 days.
A guard in a booth sees one gate. Our operators see every camera on the yard at the same time, and clients save up to 70% compared with on-site guards. Guards are still available as a secondary option. The service is insurance-approved and backed by our 30-Day Performance Guarantee.
